People should read Lawrence Goodman's The Populist Moment: A Short History of the Agrarian Revolt in America. US farmers were particularly devastated by the withdrawal of Lincoln's greenbacks after the Civil War and began organizing against the commercial banking system in 1878. At its height in 1896, the People's Party had 2.2 million members and controlled several state legislatures. In 1892 their presidential candidate James Weaver won five states and 8.5% of the popular vote. The state-owned Bank of North Dakota is a legacy of this movement. https://archive.org/details/populistmomentsh0000good

Excellent, Matthew! VERY timely for me personally. Last night at a Tea Party meeting, we discussed the history of the National/Federal debt. Our country started off in 17176 with a debt of about $75Million. Jackson had succeeded in paying it off in 1835, I think. The Civil war increased the debt to over $1B for the first time and by the end it was 2.7Billion!. Lincoln was assassinated because of the greenbacks. Kennedy, for the executive order to establish a U.S. Treasury Note. Getting rid of private bankers is extremely dangerous. Hopefully God has a plan for Trump to do so, and to keep him safe while so doing. We have been slaves to debt and usury for long enough to learn our lesson!
