The Chinese approach was, as you described, informed by their experience with the UK's Opium war on them, making them the "Sick Man of East Asia." By the 1950's-1960's China's Patriotic Hygiene Campaign opened the door for their fundamental transformation of their population from National Man to World Man. Applying the "Logic of Disease Politics" "To Combine Health Campaigns with Mass Movements" and "Discipline Imposed by Hygiene." They applied a very Asian sociological concept of Discipline, Internal Discipline and External Discipline in tandem. Familiar to those who understand the martial arts. Internal Discipline involving teaching (reeducating/indoctrinating). External Discipline involving force (police/imprisonment/executions).
The Chinese Nationals were going to be changed one way or the other. The "easy way" or the "hard way." This two-pronged approach began in the classrooms, with children, their education process. As well as using cultural prompts, "nudges" of their time, psychological reframing of perspectives, changing the "Internal Discipline" of the people to want, desire to do what their society asked of them, to be a good person. As enough "reeducated" Communists were empowered the "hard way" of External Discipline was applied to the 'bad' selfish, individualistic people.

I agree with much of what Matt asserts. What I thought growing up was shaped by those wolves in sheep disguise. The 2 world wars gave nationalism a bad name. Global one world order was made to appear the way to go. The deep state was not talked about. They were intelligent (Bertrand Russell for example) unlike the neocons of today. If you have false assumptions (eugenics and such) it doesn't matter how intelligent you are. If after ww2 the Us simply kept up with its funding of infrastructure and education rather than the military Keynesism of the Military Industrial Complex (MIC) to continue the imperialism of the British Empire what a better world it would be. 'They' killed the reformers of the 60s and got away with it. The Nation security complex joined with the MIC. Reagan broke the Unions. Silicon Valley has created the surveillance state. Catastrophic Climate change has hijacked the needed environmental awareness.

Transhumanism, is a minor topic. The fundamental problem with that is how slow and fragile human brains & bodies are. Our communication ability is limited to about 20bps, whereas machines can communicate in the Gbps or even Tbps range. There is at most a minor advantage to integrate humans with machines. Primarily for things like restoring movement to paraplegics or some rudimentary sight to the blind. For practical applications, robotics and A.I. will be vastly more capable than human cyborgs.
The ruling Psychopaths will undoubtedly seek novel ways to control human beings but it won't be from Neuralinks or brain interfaces, it will be with drugs, social credit policies, jackboot police tactics and psychological operations. Forget Transhumanism.
