University of Alberta Assistant Professor Dougal MacDonald raised hell on November 20, 2019 by writing in a personal Facebook post that the 1932-33 genocide of Ukrainians referred to as Holodomor was a “myth fabricated by Hitlerites”. If such remarks were made in most nations today, it wouldn’t be such a big deal (as only 16 nations have chosen to recognize this event as an act of genocide rather than the tragic act of nature which MacDonald and
The devastating famine also affected Russia and that information along with the well known natural conditions that precipitated the terrible famine were not reported. I am extremely proud of Mathew and Cynthia as an expat Canadian for their insightful and well researched work that continues to inform and educate me! Bravo!!!!
Thank you for telling some truths about the Nazi collaborators in Ukraine. Another fact is that those Nazis have been trying to exterminate the Russian-speaking Ukrainians in eastern Ukraine
since 2014 when a US-CIA coup replaced pro-Russia Viktor Yanukovych with one of their anti-Russian stooges.

Excellent piece--thank you! Note standing to the left and behind Chrystia (WEF) Freeland is our ridiculous Toronto Mayor (blue mask-- he LOVES masks) John Tory -- holding a flag. Another 67 (looks 75 plus) yr old politician who has never done anything but screw up or fail in any job his silver spoon background would hand him.

Having read the article linked above, it is easy to note that it is a work of analysis, aka propaganda, itself. If you read it carefully you will note that it was Stalin’s choice to rapidly industrialize, and that it was this choice, not the west, that forced the famine. History is above all a matter of the interpretation of available facts, so my remark about propaganda is meant to be facetious. Historians would likely agree that Stalin made a conscious decision to privilege his industrial program over the lives of millions. You may think that was the correct judgment. I don’t.
As a free speech advocate, I welcome any evidence the professor might put forth that the Ukraine famine of the 30s was a myth. But this article displays the opposite of scholarship. Asserting as evidence of a “myth” that the two writers had friends in high places is sophomoric. It’s the old guilt by association. He knew those guys so he must have shared their thoughts and aims - that just doesn’t cut it as evidence. In fact neither writer was celebrated for that reporting. The opposite was the case, it was very unpopular news, particularly since the US wanted to recognize- and did, in 1933- the USSR. I don’t know the content of the professor’s actual argument, but if it weak, let it be challenged by a better one. This is how it’s done during periods of civilization. Shouting down those you disagree with a child’s tantrum.

Powerful I enjoy the counter narrative as it's always closer to the truth.
