Decades ago while at Britain’s Public Record Office researching the life of my Laois-born grandfather, Kieran Fogarty (1839-1923) a British soldier (1857-1881), I discovered that the 1845-1850 starvation of Ireland had required the deployment into Ireland of more than half of Britain’s military (67 of its 126-regiment army.

Other than the terrorizing of the people their mission in Ireland was the seizure and escorting of Ireland’s abundant and varied food crops to the nearest port for export.

Having been taught “famine” in schools on both sides of the Atlantic, the discovery that it was a military-enforced genocide was shocking. So was learning that writers of the time referred to it as “Holocaust.” It was consistently reported as “Holocaust” in the pages of The Cork (now Irish) Examiner newspaper from 4May1846 until 19Nov1855.

The comprehensive account of that vast crime is available in my “Ireland 1845-1850: the Perfect Holocaust, and Who Kept it ‘Perfect’.” It’s 4th Ireland printing sold out promptly. Its 1st Australian edition is in distribution. Those printings were donated. I am selling from the 3rd U.S. printing. Also via Amazon.

As all readers of my book do, and as I had to do those decades ago, the lie of “famine” must be excised from all tongues regarding Ireland.

I didn't realize your book was Matthew's primary source, Chris, which makes me even more interested in it. These are fascinating details and remind me of some other parallels:

When Solon introduced democracy to Greece, to quell the rebellion of the landless and colonized, membership was predicated on support for the colonizing military and the export of one cash crop--olive oil.

The Belgian exploitation of the Ivory Coast under King Leopold, and how it was exposed by a shipping clerk who noticed rubber and goods coming in but only guns and men going out.

And the Weimar 'hyperinflation' with military making sure that food and goods made it onto ships and out of the starving country.

Thanks for your great research on this important topic!

Excellent points, Chris. I briefly mention the planned starvation of Ireland in my book, How to Dismantle an Empire, but I devote a chapter to the enslavement and 'transport' of the Irish and Scottish that preceded widespread African slavery. The bounty hunters who entrapped children and the reality of 'indentured servitude,' which was cheaper and had higher mortality than Africans with negative incentives to keep them alive, is as horrific as anything I've read.

Your book sounds fascinating. Please post a link.

April 27, 1961:

'For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match.'

Beautiful intro by Sara! She really makes the connections between all these events, past and present, very clear. Looking forward to listening to the interview and hearing your joint vision of the future, with which I am in enthusiastic agreement on Sergey and the multipolar world.

I also noticed you quoted in the article "Mass Formation or Mass Atrocity?" which I quoted in my episode yesterday on Words: https://thirdparadigm.substack.com/p/when-words-die-worlds-die.

Sara! What a delight that you subscribed to me! Now you need to check out the one I did on Matt and Cynthia where I call them the dynamic duo of geopolitics, operating out of their Montreal batcave ;-) https://thirdparadigm.substack.com/p/matt-ehret-and-cynthia-chung-geopuzzle. I'm three-quarters into your interview and loving it!

Thank you, Tereza! You mentioned Leopold’s genocide. There is a direct connection between King Leopold II’s genocide of some eleven million in his personally “owned” then-Belgian Congo, and his cousin, Queen Victoria’s Holocaust of some 5 million in Ireland.

King Leopold I was the father of the one genocidist and uncle and regular mentor of the other.
