Well it certainly isn't the bastion of freedom & human rights that so many White Monkey (Chinese term for Westerners working for China) channels claim it to be. But it's also not necessarily a black & white answer, a lot of which has to do with traditional Chinese culture having been gutted by Communism.
Agreed. And a lot of it also has to do with propaganda substituting for truth because there's always am agenda behind geopolitical narratives. It's almost impossible to know what a society is really like without living in it.
