Last week, I had the great pleasure of discussing all things 'UFO Cult' with Mathew Crawford. We spent a surprising amount of time discussing Mormons, the Church of Scientology, Q anon and the Remote Viewing Project at Stanford dubbed 'The Stargate Project'. Thanks for this fascinating discussion. Re: the Mormons, have you considered that they may have been used as a tool of the British to secure control over the regions in the west of the US (now Utah), where they settled? I believe the British funded many waves of new Mormon converts who migrated from England and Scandinavia in the mid-19th Century. Also there's the concept of Mormons offering a pilot project for Zionism: Create a persecuted group (Joseph Smith's cult following) that has to flee and make their way to Zion (that's what they called the Utah region) and makes the desert bloom, etc.
