The Saucers are round and can zip around like they do because they have a big Gyroscope that spins at incredible speed, but I don't know what the propulsion method is. I read a bunch of Science Fiction books when I was a kid and learned a lot from them.

An object with a gyroscope attached is problematic to re-orient when the gyroscope is spinning.
