I am having a difficult time reconciling FDR's gold confiscation with individual liberty. The confiscation of gold at $20.67 and then revaluing it at $35 after confiscation seems like outright theft from The People to the Federal Reserve to me. How did that help The People?

Matt, very nice, as usual. Just one thing, you've erroneously associated Tito with Czechoslovakia. Tito was in charge of Yugoslavia, which was a member of non-aligned movement. Czechoslovakia was firmly in the Soviet orbit.

beautiful timeline, spanning almost than 300 years. another result of Westphalia (which marked the almost 100 years of horrifc and violent religious wars against expansive Spain) the Dutch Low Countries became united as a Republic (1581-1795).
